My wife and I recently attended the Wisconsin State Fair. Honestly, we only go for one reason: the food! We love the cream puffs, the fried cheese, the pork chop on a stick, the roasted corn, and the list goes on and on. It's both fun and tasty to try all the different foods...and boy is it filling. I wish we all had the same kind of appetite for God's Word. Don't you think God would be so pleased if we hungered for His Word as much as we hunger for the food at the State Fair? And not only would it please God, it would feed our souls and refresh our hearts. The Psalmist, David, provides the kind of passion we should have for God's Word in chapter 119. In verse 20, he says, "My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times." David says in verse 97, "Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long." And this next one is especially fitting with the State Fair image in mind... "...How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (vs. 103)." My hope and prayer is that God puts the desire in all of us to go after his Word like we do so many other things in this life. There's actually something better than the taste of the food at the State Fair...it's the taste of God's Word in our souls...God's Word can transform our lives in a moment and forever. Enjoy the buffet of God's Holy Word! With Love, Pastor Bruce |
