One of my favorite phrases to both hear and say in Christian ministry is, “It was a God thing!” When we hear that phrase, the general thought is this… …if God had not been involved it would not have happened! Or, it only happened because God was in it!

Over the past year, I’ve both heard and said that phrase on various occasions. I don’t know how you say “It was a God thing” in Hebrew or Greek (the Greek looks like this Ήταν ένα πράγμα Θεών), but can’t you just hear that phrase ringing out in the pages of God’s Word?

After the burning bush encounter, can’t you hear Moses telling his friends and family…”that was a God thing!” Or, after the Children of Israel safely crossed the Red Sea, escaping their captors…”now that was a God thing!” Or, how about Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus… …”Paul what happened to you,” his friends must have surely asked. “I’m not sure, but it was definitely a “God thing!”

I would imagine that all of us have experienced “A God thing” at least once in our lives. Maybe it was in your marriage or another relationship. Maybe you were nearly in an accident or money came out of nowhere and you were able to pay the mortgage…in your heart and mind…it was a “God thing!”

As we enter into 2009, my hope and prayer is that each of you experience the presence of God in an incredible way… …maybe even in a “God thing” kind of way.

When you think about it, the fact that we are alive and have breath and can function at all is really “a God thing.”

And the salvation and hope we have in Jesus is the ultimate “God thing.” Praise God!
