In This Thing Together
But Lord, Gideon asked, how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family. (Judges 5: 15)
Ever felt like Gideon? The Lord calls you to do something, but you don't feel like you have the ability to do it. Whatever 'Midianite' you face physical, financial, relational, emotional you are not alone in the battle.
The Lord answered (Gideon), "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together." (Judges 5: 16)
Every time I have read this, the part that has stuck out the most is, "I will be with you " It is awesome to know that when we belong to God, we are never alone in the battle. But as I was reading this passage this time, the thing that stuck out to me was the last word in verse 16 "together."
The battle does belong to the Lord in this life, but He did not intend for it to be just us and Him. God trusts in His people to do things together. As Christians we are called to be here for one another. Galatians 6: 2 says, "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Verse 10 says, "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."
God's Word makes it clear that we are in this thing together. We need to be constantly praying for one another and seeking the leading of the Holy Spirit to help us recognize our unity in Christ and our call to serve one another. And when we work together, with God's help, all things are possible. It's not the size of the body, it's the heart inside the body that God works through.
Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after they had changed the guard. They blew their trumpets and broke jars that were in their hands. The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, "A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!" While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled. (Judges 7: 19-21).
Remember, as Christians, we are in the battle together!
